Three to four hours
The black route has been sponsored by Helly Hansen which has allowed Glentress to offer a track which will challenge the most experienced bikers.
Rough in charater with lung busting ascents and bone shaking descents,
the black is a route that is most definately out there and skirts the
very perimeters of the forest, and unlike the red and the blue once
you are on it you are committed to ride the bulk of it-not for wimps!
The black climbs to 602m and weather conditions can be markedly different to down at the cafe. The black also includes 'Ewok Village' a North Shore style of trail constructed from timber inspired by the crazy tree top trails from Canada-a tad tamer, but still a real technical challenge. This section of trail has bee constructed by the Glentress trail fairies-a volunteer group of passionate bikers, not the same breed that leave money under your pillow!
When you are out on the trail always wear a helmet and carry some supplies with you-food/drink as well as trail spares, its a long walk out if you get stuck. The Hub always endevour to have a first aider on duty during opening times and will be glad to help if you do hurt yourself, but save us money in plasters and ride within your limits!
